Spring in Wanaka

Summer in Wanaka

Summer brings cloudless, hot, sunny days. 
The temperature can reach 34°C/93°F but averages
23°C/73°F. 

Little wonder that New Zealanders flock to Lake Wanaka for their summer break and that more and more international visitors are joining them in discovering the region. Sip wine at a local vineyard on the lake-shore or spend a day or three fishing one of the great valley rivers. Up the ante with a little adventure: canyoning, climbing, river surfing or sky-diving. Or simply idle the days away swimming, cafe-cruising and day dreaming... summer is a great time to visit.


Autumn in Wanaka

Autumn is a spectacular time of year for photographers who want to make the most of the autumn colours and lake reflections. Nature expresses itself beautifully in autumn with a kaleidoscope of colors from dazzling golds to vivid reds.

In late March the arts come together with the Wanaka Autumn Arts Festival. Passionate students learn from professional artists in this week-long school that attracts hundreds of people to share their creativity.

Warbirds    A significant event during autumn is "Warbirds Over Wanaka", which is an International Air Show held every two years (every second Easter).  The event was last held April 2004.
